"Data Management Planning" is an educational video on research data management. The video explains briefly the concept of a data management plan (DMP) and it' s advantages for research. The DMP is a document that describes the data management for a specific research project. In general, it covers all necessary steps in the life cycle of research data - from collection to preservation and publication. Not everything can be foreseen and planned beforehand, so it should be created at the beginning of the project, but must be updated over time. A DMP should be more than a formal document. Even if the creation and maintenance of the document initially costs a lot of time and effort, it has many advantages for research community. All data management actions are considered and coordinated right from the start and the resources and responsibilities are clarified. Data documentation is coordinated and the conditions for access and reuse are clarified. In the end, a lot of time for discussion and explanation is saved during the research process and the quality and reusability of research data is ensured.
