Caption

In December 1983, when Dambudzo Marechera stayed behind at the house of Flora and Volker Wild in Harare, while they had gone with their children to the Vumba Mountains, he wrote the poetic sequence "My Arms Vanished Mountains". When the Wilds came back, he asked them to record him reading it to them while Ravel's "Bolero" was playing from the disk player. Afterwards, he tore the manuscript up. Flora Veit-Wild transcribed the poem from this recording and published it after his death in "Cemetery of Mind". See her essay "Me and Dambudzo", Ressource ID 594.
