Abstract

“The Secret of Our Environment” was conceived and shot by a group of villagers from Seronga, Botswana to depict aspects of their relationship with the natural environment and discuss related problems. Focussing on the complex interplay between wildlife, tourism, fishing and farming, the film shows how natural resources are an integral part of the rural population’s everyday lives. The film consists of interviews and two ethnofictional sequences depicting important activities to the audience in a playful and humorous way. The participatory film was produced during a workshop facilitated by Martin Gruber of the University of Bremen together with Meshsack Kwamovo in Seronga in February and March 2013.
