Abstract
The photograph shows a tirere, a seated dance performed with short sticks — hence its common English name, "stick dance." For this performance, the leader of the dance group had adapted the popular song te uareti to the tirere. The dance was performed in the mwaneaba Temaninraoi, a meeting house in the village Rotimwa, on the occasion of the consultations on the Gerd Koch tape collection, which were held on the island of Nonouti. The performance was prepared in close cooperation with the group's leader.
