Abstract

This recording is from Gerd Koch's Kiribati tape collection (1963–1964). According to Koch's documentation, KN 053 "Biri mai, nako mai" is a kabuakaka dance song recorded in Rotimwa, Nonouti, on 18 November 1963 at 3:30 p.m. Its text refers to oreano, a men's ball game. It was probably composed several decades earlier by Tangimate, a well-known Nonouti composer who had already died by then.
